How to recover?

Postby chaos » September 2nd, 2008, 2:41 pm

So I graduated from ITT over a year ago now with an associates in CNS. Needless to say i've yet to get even a single call from an employer, after hundreds if not thousands of applications, even with my current bosses recommendations (I work at university of michigan).

I decide to do a little research today (yea a bit late unfortunately) and this seems to be everyones problem, I also see many forum posts with employers asking if they should even consider an ITT or similar school graduate, and the answer tends to be "throw it in the garbage". Well I guess I know why i've never got a call.

So all that crap aside I sit here with a huge problem. Me going to college only ruined my life, I was fine before, and now im broke, well over $30,000 in debt, only get paid $11/hr, have no benefits, and have to live at my parents house again when im 23 now.

living in michigan doesnt help at all, but moving to a better part of the country is literally impossible for me, and to make my situation worse, I now have to pay an extra $250/month for my student loans, I dont know how im going to pay for that.

So how do I get past this? ITT has ruined my school experience. I didnt want to go to college in the first place but now that I feel scammed (and me not getting a interview call isnt my only reason to say this) I absolutely refuse to go back. I couldnt afford it even if I wanted to. I cant get a job in the field, cant move to a better employment state, cant go back to school. wtf do I do. I wish I would have never went.

http://ittakestime.org/forum/breaktime/it-jobs-t65.html

1. Find a place that doesn't care about the school you graduated from
2. Find a contract-to-hire job; if they like what you do within a couple of months, chances are they'll hire you on permanently
3. Just be a contractor - it still pays
4. Start your own business
5. Go here: http://www.quintcareers.com/job-seeker.html; the practice questions for interviews helped me a lot

I wish I could do more than offer the above advice, which must seem glib to someone in your predicament. I also found some good resume ideas with this book, which also helped me get a job.
The only real students attending ITT Tech are the ones that shouldn't be there.
