John Stossel Is College Worth It? 20/20 ABC News

I was going to post this as an article, but I actually saw this particular 20/20 show on TV a few weeks ago. I think college is worth it if it puts you on the path to your desired field of work. The problem is many of those paths require expensive degrees that lead to fields with meager earning potential. It's something to think about if you're not sure what to do with your life.
The only real students attending ITT Tech are the ones that shouldn't be there.

After attending ITT I came to the realization that this College dream is being sold to us, sold to us so we are in debt right out of school. That way we have no other choice but to find a job, and become obedient workers. Because if we are up to our eyes in debt, the last thing we want to do is lose the only income we have to pay down that debt to become free individuals in society. If we have no debt when we go into the work force, and we happen to fall into a job that we despise, we would just quit and find another one.
We were scholars long before colleges.

I am a 45 year old man.

After high school I got a job and always just worked for different companies and lived an average lifestyle.

when I was 42 years old I lost my job and couldn't find any other decent job. My wife convinced me to go to school and ITT looked good and promised me a bright future. After 9 months of attending I knew as much about computer networking as I did when I started - next to nothing. I dropped out and spent the next 6 months at a Community College but I had to pay cash because I couldn't get a student loan since I owed almost $30,000 to Sallie Mae.

Last summer I found a full time job that pays $11.50 an hour and I am currently still employed. I stopped going to the Community College because I can't afford it and let's face it - it will take me another 2 years to get a lame 2 year degree and that we only get me an entry level job paying about what I earn now. I would be 48 years old and deeper in debt, so what is the use.

Bottom line - college is a good experience and worth while if you attend fresh out of high school and if you attend a "real college". Other that that you are wasting your time and money.

what I get from that video is that if u just goto college just to get higher paying jobs it is not worth it. Most people are content just working in some job. College is for people who have a passion for a specific job or high intellect to make society better.
