1 semester down...

Postby KuJoe » June 5th, 2008, 10:11 pm

I don't know where I should put this so I hope this is the correct spot. I've been reading through a lot of the posts and am glad I have yet to experience anything that has been mentioned so far. Having attended a handful of other colleges I finally found one I enjoy attending. I guess the term "to each their own" is best used here. I've mainly joined this site for fun since I don't see how I can contribute anything to any discussion without forming an arguement of some sort because the majority seem to share differing views. It helps pass the time while I'm at work. ;)

So am I to understand there are no registered users with a good experience at all? I'm the minority here? :D

EDIT: Wow, after reading some more threads I think there is quite an age difference here. I now see why everybody here is having so many problems with ITT.

I am 19. The ITT I go to is OKAY. I won't tell you to take that with a grain of salt, because I don't know how big your salt grains are.

I learn little to nothing in my campus, due to teachers being "recycled". My campus likes to place English teachers in Graphic Design classes and expect the students to actually learn something.

In my course (2 years), I have enjoyed one part of ITT:
The people I have met and the connections I have made. I've learned so much and shared so much with people I have met there, that I feel the money I waste towards ITT is well spent towards the people I have met.

ITT Tech is the only place Criminal Justice students leave from with enough pirated software to put them away for life.

So...out of a 1-10 scale, I give it a 4. There's something to be desired, which is an education, but the other students going there teach you what you WANT to learn.
I went to ITT Technical Institute, and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt!

I see, so I guess it all depends on the program, and what you expect out of the school... thanks. :) Some people have hugh expectations and thus are naturally angry when they found out the commercials were lies. I did my research before hand so I have yet to find anything that surprises me about ITT.

Alot of the better campuses are found down south, in more popular states, VA not being one of them... I hear better things from a few folk living in Florida that go there also.

Well so far from the graduates I have talked to locally they are all extremely happy with their decisions. I guess the location has a lot to do with it also too, so I shall take note of that. Thanks again!

I got straight A's in my first semester at ITT. It was hard to believe, since I hardly learned anything in 2 classes and was totally lost in the other class.
I believe they gave me the A's to boost my confidence and keep me happy since I had perfect attendance and they read that I was a sucker that cared about going to school; unlike most of the deadbeat losers that attend ITT.

No it isn't location its the sheer naive students. KuJoe you been going for one semester, i am positive you had a feeling or 2 something isn't right. ITT is not what it seems. They tell you a year of General Education courses along with IT courses, then the 2nd year is IT courses. Well me and my friend were there for 1.5 years and still had GE Courses!

Everything on this site is true, you might not realize yet or are shutting it out. You have to consider everything, teachers, price, expectations, classes, books, grades, materials, credits/transferability/accreditation.
The fact that your paying 40/80K for an "education" and not having the ability to use it at a real school should piss you off. I could go on and on, but you need to sit down and really think about your experience so far.

Having you learned anything in your first semester, what classes did you have and what did you learn. Please share with us.

I only took Problem Solving and Strategies for Business Professional or whatever it's called. I don't expect to learn a whole lot of anything in the GenEd classes, I did learn a handful of things but nothing worth putting on my resume. I'm sorry if I'm not experiencing the same things everybody else has apparently. All of the things you are telling me I knew before I enrolled, the reps were straight up with me about all of the credit information and the difference between national and regional accredidation. So far the majority of the things I'm reading complaints about are things that you should have known before signing anything.

They have to start doing that, they started that this year. Because We are Suing them. They are scared, they kicked me and my friend out because of this site. They wanted me to shut it down, because if the truth gets out, nobody will go there.

Why would you continue to enroll for a school that is 4X expensive, credits don't mean shit, employeers laugh at ITT on resume's because they know the truth. Why Why Why Why Why.

I have some news for you, what you experienced this quarter is what it is. Crappy classes, you don't learn anything. Come on you doesn't know how to make a damn slideshow in powerpoint or to use MS Office (Tech professional BS course).

Problem Solving is iffy, it has to do with math. You will take 1 IT course, and 2 Gen Ed course most of the time. It is a fact that the longer you are there the shittier the classes/teachers/school is. I don't know why but i have experienced that and so have a lot of people.

The teachers have No degrees and they don't even get paid enough to own a computer or live in a house (see my thread about java teacher). The teachers lie (see my thread about economics teacher).

You can google ITT Tech Ripoff, scam, sucks and you find a bunch of stories about itt, and they are not lying. Its really something to think about. I would get the hell out now and save yourself 35,000. Go to a community college then a university and get a B.S. for 25K, not 80K that itt charges.

I want you to look around your campus, hell take some pictures of labs and shit, i want you to talk to 5-8th quarter students and find out what they really think. They are more experienced. It seems the majority of ITT tech students figure out its a scam after a year, i don't know why they defend it the first year and then they wake up. I knew it was bullshit the first month and had a bad feeling before i signed up (read my story in this forum).

Unfortunately in my campus there are no 5-8th quarter students (the campus has only been open for 2 or 3 semesters).

Like I said I guess it's different based on location because in my current company alone there are a handful of ITT graduates who started right after getting their Associates of Science degree.

I did the community college route, tried the university route, all of it wasn't my cup of tea. I prefer the smaller classes and teachers who know your name and not your student number.

I am actually almost done with my GenEd classes so luckily I don't have to worry about them anymore after the next 1 or 2 semesters. :D

Oh, and as for the teachers, if you go to any private school you'll see that their teachers barely make anything (I think it's around $7k or so either a year or every other semester or something). The reason is because it's supposed to be additional income on top of their full time jobs. The 2 teachers I had this semester were glad to share their credentials.

The thing that bothers me most about this site is reading some of these threads and realizing that there are people out there experiencing this for the first time AFTER enrolling in school. It's scary that people just sign away without a clue. :(

Oh, and on a side note, I can transfer my credits afterwards if I wish. I made sure I found a loophole prior to enrolling incase I wanted to return to either my community college or university. ;)

There is no loophole, they will not accept them no matter what itt says. Call up the university and ask them if they will take credits from ITT Tech. Your fooling yourself if you think you can transfer them.

Also your not down with Gen ed you have to take:
SFTP
Economics
Math 1, 2 and 3
Public speaking
Composition 1 and 2
Problem solving
There are a bunch more, when i remember them ill post them too.

Also it's 40K + a 16% interest rate on your loans. If you don't get a job that pays 50K your going to be screwed and in debt for 20 years or more with that interest rate. That is my interest rate, and a few other people's i know.

Also I am wondering how are you getting F.A. since the government put a hold on loans for ITT and Devry, also Sallie Mae dumped them. At my campus i heard that they couldn't get students loans and had a hard time getting funding. Also did you see that article where they have an internal itt employee letter basically screwed over students and charging them 5K without telling them. I would read the articles in the articles section.

Actually the only credits that transferred from my community college and university were all my GenEd classes so I only have 2-3 more left to take. I am handling my FA personally through a private lendor (it's actually my bank, but as far as ITT is concerned it's private).

And for what it's worth, I am already making close to $50k a year (I'm going to school so I can be making closer to $80k a year like the ITT Tech graduates at my current job), I am paying off the interest while in school to lessen the amount I owe when I need to start paying, and my current interest rate is around 9% since I have no longterm credit history (5 years isn't enough apparently). :(

Would you mind sharing with use where you work and what you do then?

I have called around 28 companies and most of them said No or might consider.
When they said might consider i gave a hypothetical situation favoring the itt tech student, and all of them chose a university student.

There was one guy who laughed at me, saying he knows "what kind of people" go to itt tech.
Basically the lazy, bad grades type of people.

That is cool you are making 50K a year, but in all seriousness, i doubt an associates degree would raise that (it depends on what u do and the company). I have 2 years of credit history and i got 15% interest. I never have been late on a bill, so my CH should be 100% good. I also build credit with a Credit card. You have a better interest rate because you went through your bank, good for you not being a Sallie Mae Bitch.

I'm an HP Non-Stop System Operator at a local financial firm (http://www.RaymondJames.com). It's a cake job, if you like sitting in front of a command line all day, but I was thinking of moving towards Server Administration (a level 1 Server Admin is 4 pay grades higher than me) so that's where my CNS degree would come into play since I currently have just a High School diploma, 3 years IT experience, and an A+ cert (talk about a waste of time, 45 minutes of my life I will never get back).

One thing everybody will learn after entering Corporate America is this: It's not what you know, it's who you know. And the networking and contacts I am making at ITT so far have been priceless.
