ITT Tech Concord

Tired of listening to your instructor tell stories about his daily visit to a perfume store? Wonder when your going to get a "hands on" approach?

ITT Tech Concord

Postby alee821 » March 4th, 2010, 7:48 pm

I don't where to post this, so I guess I'll post it here. I had some free time after I dropped off my paper at a community college, and decided to check out the ITT Tech "campus" in Concord. I drove there and it looked like a shithole. It was located near a day laborer zone, it was sharing a building with another company, near some beauty/cosmetic school or supply store. It was around early afternoon, I say around 12-12:30ish and it looked like no classes were in session, or maybe they were but the instructors was no were to be found. There was a small computer/tutor lab that only had like 25 computers. The bookstore was a joke, it looked like a storage facility. And the students there looked like they shouldn't even be in school.

The only real students attending ITT Tech are the ones that shouldn't be there.

I understand this post is about a year old now, but it popped up in the top three for my search. I would like to clarify a few of the things said about my school here, assuming exposing the lies, is what this site is about.

First off the school is in emaculate condition considering it is still less than three years old, it should, shit hole.....hardly.
We do share the parking lot with another PRIVATE college, that does happen to be a beauty school. I have not checked it out though.

The bookSTORE is not a store at all.....our books are free....as free as our tuition says atleast. So our book storage is just that, storage for books waiting to be GIVEN out, nice try but fail.

The worst cut you said was not about the school at all, that is just a building. The students and staff is what bugs me, i will start with the fact this is mainly a night school, hence the ghost town you see in the day. Students come to the warm atmosphere presented, in sweat pants sometimes, to take advantage of the free tutors and LRC, library resource center. That is the small lab you were talking about btw, not a lab, a small computer library, good job Sherlock. The instructors are AMAZING, and work with you beyond their own limitations to make sure you retain the information presented and excell.

The basic point I am trying to put out, is that the original post is filled with nonsense slander about a school with a very warm atmosphere and accepting feeling. It should be noted that when you are dropping off your paper for your community college, try not to stop by such and wonderful PRIVATE school and spit your jealousy all over it.

Good job special ed.....hope all that general education nails you a career in a technological field you are proud of. GO HELP DESK! yay!

I approved this post just so I can laugh at it. Thank you for your AMAZING review about the great "EDUCATION" you are receiving. ITT Tech is not a private school, it's public. They will enroll anyone that can pay, you do not even need a high school diploma or GED.

"GO HELP DESK! yay!" That is what you will be doing when you graduate, you will figure it out soon enough. You do not need ITT Tech or any other school to get a $11/hr job doing tech support over the phone. The education at ITT-Tech is minimal and sub-par, companies won't hire you or anyone else that attended these for-profit, diploma mill, shortcut schools. You won't be able to get anything else. I guess you have not seen my post about the ITT-Tech job fair, it was all fast food places, border patrol, probation officers; jobs that you do not need ITT-Tech to get.

I am really sorry you still cannot see the truth about the "school", it's really sad you will have at least $50,000 in loans to repay before you finally open your eyes. If you are going to praise the education you are receiving, at least take the time to fix you are spelling and grammatical errors.

First off let me say thank you for "approving" my post. One hell of a security clearance for that apparently, no. I have not read any of your posts, I may, but have not thus far. As a matter of fact the only reason I came here was to put that garbage post to rest when people look up this campus. But I ask you, have you attended ITT? If not, which I can safely assume is the case, how can you make any comments or assumptions on what "Education" I am recieving. I assure you this though, when I do graduate, from my non sub par school, with my non sub par education, I will not be administering a site like this, if I am lucky that is. But that is slander and besides the point.

Fast food places, border patrol, probation officers. Two of the three revolve around Criminal Justice majors, and the third, hmmm "We expose the lies, speak the truth." Maybe you should re read your own slogan. I find it hard to believe, and damn sure not fact, that someone, anyone with even an associates degree would wind up at a fast food spot. Maybe I should check out the rest of this site, instead of the one article I stumbled across. Considering the first dumb post, and then the administrators childish response that has nothing of truth nor merit, only opinion, I find that may be a waste of my time. How can I expect the truth, that you will expose the lies, when the administrator is just an educated moron, with opinions and slander (not truth) about a school he has never attended, nor even seen with his own eyes. This is obvious due to the pictures of the school that are accurate, you were "surprised they could even use photo shop" for. I mean come on, a paint job is all the school got between the two pictures dummy.

Have a nice day not approving this one. Wouldn't want your site to have some real truth on it anyway.

Not to mention my spelling is fine, and grammar is not an issue on a message board. If you are going to try to bring someone down, do it with facts, not your lame ass opinions.

Aside from this whole rant, I am still curious where your facts are? How do you come to these conclusions? What proof do you have of your accusations toward the education given by this school? I mean come on, how can you say these things are accurate when you could not even respond to my message legitimately. You gave no retort to anything I said expect for the help desk jab. Which to me only adds to your ignorance in this matter. If I am wrong please elaborate, tell me something I dont know. Are you a job recruiter? Have you turned down legitimate employees with degrees given by this accredited college? I mean come on man. Enlighten me.

Unless I am right about you that is.

Well it seems I made an ass of myself in regard to you having attended ITT. Guess I will just have to live with that one.

Well I did a little bit of reading around the site now.

I find it hard to believe you have devoted a whole site to bad mouthing ITT. Why?

I now understand the meaning behind "the only students there are the ones that shouldn't be" and do not take offense, however, some of this is just wrong. I am only a 3rd quarter student, granted I know most of the information taught so far, but there are things on this site that are just not accurate.

For instance, I read a post about not choosing CNS if you do not know these ten or so things. I am in a standards and protocols class right now that is teaching much of the things on the list the user says is not taught. Subnetting...definitely covered....and well I should say.
This is only one thing that comes to mind, there were others.

I did not know what this site was when I first posted, just replying to a message I thought was wrong. I must say now that I do know, have you all really gotten that bad of a deal from ITT? I mean come on, you sure the problem isn't you? That you didn't retain the information presented in the short time it is presented?

Either way, you all have fun with your bashing, the very little things I do have a problem with at ITT are surely not worth putting on a site.

So what if your teacher doesn't have the answer for you the minute you ask, it is the world of technology people, stuff changes. And other's, well, I guess Ill say it this way. If I asked you questions pertaining to anything and everything you have been taught about computers, would you remember it all? Granted, why a NIC card is needed for high speed is...well that teacher was just dumb, but really, come on they are people too and can forget things.

Point is, If your school was not to your appealing, go someplace else. To bad mouth a nationwide instituion is kinda dumb though. That is like comparing the Taco Bell in the worst part of town to the one in the rich part of town....just aint gonna be the same.

And seven I still think your post was childish and not really responding to the points i made, but atleast now I know why your stance is the way it is.

Peace all, enjoy your other schools.

Postby sevenalive » January 7th, 2011, 11:07 pm

You wanted my reasons, so here they are. This is my 2nd time typing this post, I lost the original after 20 minutes of typing and about 2 pages worth of a bunch of different stuff, so Ill keep this shorter.

  • Tuition: insanely priced and not worth the money, keeps going up $25 every 3 quarters.
  • Classes: You can't pick your own schedule or classes, it's all done for you, no electives.
  • Academics: As long as you show up, your're guaranteed a B or better. You don't need to do any homework or class work (if there is any). The whole time I was there, I was given either a packet filled with crap to do or some basic info. Then the class and instructor would just surf the net, or they would all talk about random subjects. Little to no learning. My economic class was all about perfume and circle K being dirty and having too many employees. The instructor was a paper salesman/ failed real estate agent.

As long as you show up, ITT gets government grants, they will rig the grades because if you fail, that means less money. You see passing grades and are thrilled with the school because you're doing so well and getting A's, but you soon realize you aren't doing anything. In fact your spending $44,000 to surf the net on 8 year old computers and listening to stories.
  • Subject material: Middle school level at best, your given all answers to tests before you take them. On top of that, it's open book and you can take home most of them. Nothing is advanced besides the Calculus math classes, the course material is too short and basic to have any real world use. If your taking CNS, who gives a shit about subnets, but ITT takes 3 weeks on them, why? Most routers and switches are advanced enough where you don't need to deal with that shit ever. You should be learning about Network monitoring and intrusion, how to setup a switch rack and properly route and setup a network using the correct topologies (and to be honest that's still basic for me). The first day in a networking class I took at a CC, I put jack ends on Ethernet cable and learned about shielding and length.

The programming classes are a joke, they don't include any GUI work at all, very basic build a command prompt program that prints prime #'s. No real work applications, while I understand this is to learn code syntax and to get familiar. It should be covering in a basics class, not Advanced C++ II, you should be doing real work applications. ITT says in the commercials it's hands on education for the real world, I never experienced that. I had a much better experience at the 2 community colleges I have attended.
  • Books: Expensive 'custom' books with pages and chapters missing. You can't buy used or choose to buy them elsewhere (because they cannot be found anywhere else), if you don't use them or test out of a class, you're stuck with them and cannot get a refund either.
  • Instructors: Most are worthless, they are their to hand out a worksheet packet and surf the net. The only good ones that actually teach class and fail people who don't do work don't last long. My teacher in my math class was fired because he flunked most of the students and didn't give odd problems for homework (because answers to odd questions were in the back). The students lied and didn't care to learn math, they wanted an easy passing grade by doing nothing. That is why "Real students shouldn't be at ITT, too many of these students seem to go to ITT because they see it as a shortcut".
  • Reps, they are paid salesman that will lie to enroll you. My guy said there wasn't gen ed classes when I clearly pointed out Math, economics, English and Nevada History as being on the course list. I didn't go to ITT for a shortcut, at the time I thought it was a respected school that focused on technical studies, I was wrong.
  • Computers: The 2 campuses I attended had at least 6 year old pc's, they didn't even have DVD-ROMS in them. We had to learn fedora 4 when 6 was out, but it was on DVD only. Most of the software was years out of date, unacceptable because most of it was freeware and the paid apps should be within a revision, simply because we are paying $44,000 for this school. The network was slow as hell and computers were just as bad, I remember Java 1.4.0 when Java 5 or 6 was out and they were using AutoCad 2002, this was in 2007. Education for the future my ass.
  • I was given a packet for IE 4, It was made in the early 90's. It had old outdated html and CSS code. The instructor brushes it off as "well it's still used today and you can learn from it". No you can't. The html standards have changed and so have many tags. CSS wasn't even in the packet. Unacceptable for any school. Where is my money going, the only thing I ended up doing in 95% of my classes was surf the net and eventually build this site.
  • I never seen anyone fail, people who wouldn't show up for weeks and never turned in any work would get a A or a B. Have you looked at the grading scale? Most of my classes 65% or more of the grade was just based on attendance and that didn't even matter.
  • Class names, they are a joke especially the class (something) for the technical professional. It turned out to be a Office XP (not even office 2003, remember it was 2007) tutorial on MS word and powerpoint. This class they just handed a packet with step by step instructions. More and more this school felt like "Beginning Computers". Who doesn't know how to use MS Office and if you don't take another class for it. For the money we should be learning, I wasn't learning anything even 8 quarters in.
  • Class length: ITT is setup 4 hour block once a week for 8 weeks or so and we managed to do hardly anything during that time. ITT classes are shorter in comparison to other schools. My classes at my community college were 1-2 hours 3 days a week for a semester (aug-dec, jan-may) and I learned and covered more material in that time than ITT.

tl;dr ITT provides middle school education without any academic standards, money down the drain.

This site isn't pro-itt, in fact I had so much hatred for ITT and the lack of academic standards offered I started this site while attending. I posted flyers on cars and around campus noting differences between ITT and a local community colleges. All were facts, it had a link and logo to this site. They tracked it to me and let me go. Best day ever, I was relieved not to be burdened anymore, they still stuck me with the bill. Many of us feel like we paid for a nice BMW and got a Yugo, the school simply isn't worth the price and you're wasting time. I didn't learn anything and you even said you haven't either, just because it's your 3rd quarter doesn't mean it will magically get better, everybody thinks that. This site is named IT Takes Time (ITT) because it takes time to realize that the crap you made excuses for and the reality you refused to believe isn't changing no matter how many quarters pass. It takes time for people to open their eyes and finally realize what's really going on.

Thank you very much Seven for taking your time to post this. I am happy this didn't turn into some message board flaming that I see all too often around the net. It may have seemed as though I was trying to initiate something to this effect, I noticed this after reading my own posts, hence the tone change, but you have instead turned it around, and as I said took your time, to help educate me in this matter. Thank you for that. I am going to read the body of the article now, just wanted to shoot you a quick thanks after reading the intro and conclusion. Hopefully everything has worked out for you and others on this site in the end, and I hope mine does as well. I am a veteran of these United States and now am schooling to raise my daughter and wife in something better than what I had. I suppose that is what this roulette wheel we call life is all about. Chances.

Take care all, and peace be with you, if you have a hope in that illusion that is.

It's a serious forum. I didn't think it would last this long, but because of the admin and his strict regulation it's grown into something special. Tell others about this site even if you disagree with much of its content.
The only real students attending ITT Tech are the ones that shouldn't be there.
