Exit stage left

Postby Desolis » July 22nd, 2009, 3:34 am

So first of all...Thank god for you guys and this site. I started doing some research on opinions of ITT because I just finished the enrollment and financial aid paperwork the other day, and like i have read many times in the last couple of hours, have that sinking feeling. Classes don't begin until September, and I'm heading back down there tomorrow with written notice to cancel all financial aid and enrollment. I was hoping to get some feedback on what i've written for a cancellation/withdrawl notice in hopes that i'm not missing something vastly important. It is as follow:

I hereby give written notice on this day, 7 -23-2009 that i am withdrawing/canceling from any and all programs of study and financial aid loans and grants prior to the start of fall classes. I will not be attending ITT Tech, and would like a signed hardcopy form stating that all loans and financial aid obligations have been canceled. I would also like all personal information pertaining to me to be removed from any ITT Tech systems, databases, and files. This includes phone number, address, and social security number.

sincerely

I apologize to anybody out there who is a spelling/grammar nut. I'm not the greatest at either. Does this look good enough to get the ball rolling on these people? Or should i perhaps change this in some way?

Again thanks for everything here. I already have enough debt as it is. It would really suck to needlessly end up with 5 times what i already have.

I was expecting as much. I just got back from there campus, they did indeed try to talk me out of it. They told me I didn't need to submit any kind of letter of any sort and that they would just cancel my enrollment. I'm guessing that thats a load of horse crap as their enrollment paperwork that i have states that the written notice is required so i guess i'll be going down there tomorrow and following up on it. After i had knocked the all of the reps sales pitches away he went to let the FAA know what i was doing and asked me to just sit tight for a minute. Which is pretty much where my red flag went up. There should be no reason whatsoever for me to have to sit there and not walk right across the hall with him unless he was talking to her about something that he didn't want to hear. I imagine this will be much more of a fight than it needs to be. Then again, i guess i expected as much of that as well. Should they be able to produce hard copy conformation of my withdrawl right there for me? I feel that if that's the case i may need to become belligerent and badger them until that's exactly what i get.

If you signed the financial agreement, you should demand some sort of written statement that says you do not owe them a penny since you are not going to attend.

HUMMM...I like this idea.

Tell them you just found out you been accepted at another school. This should destroy all their propaganda and they’ll think you will be filling financial aid elsewhere.

I could see that working, can anyone see why not?

I'm not worried about lying to them. It is absolutely my descretion what i do with my time and my money. So if i say no, its tough for them. I'm heading back down there in a couple days to get my hardcopy. I checked the online loan account they have set up on sallie mae's website and it shows that i have filled out the paperwork, but the ammount shown for my loan is 0.00. I would imagine that changes if its approved. I'm trying to find a phone number for them that lets me talk to an actual human being. the only one i can find is an automated system that gets me absolutely nowhere. Would anyone happen to have that phone number? or know a link where i could get to it? I would like to cut them off at the pass if i can.

Yes.

I called my old ITT many years ago for this kind of phone number and they gave it to me - ask the financial aid people at ITT or a real college and they might give it to you.

Following the advice posted in the rest of the Exit Interview forum should help and be sure to follow ITT's rules as stated in their own guide. Burr Ridge, IL example. And get everything in writing no matter how annoying it is to ITT and the lender.
The only real students attending ITT Tech are the ones that shouldn't be there.

Just an update guys... I'm officially out and in the clear. Everything is cancelled. Now the phone calls from the recruiter have started ;) Not that that's an issue. they can waste all the paper and breath they want. I might even let them ramble on for a while just to tick them off. If i decide to answer the phone for them that is. Thanks so much again guys.

yes!

The link above allowed me to change my mailing info to my PO BOX! Even though it says PO Boxes are not allowed, i just wrote in the numbers THEN po box and it went fine.

I also was able to change my phone number to a bogus #.

This equaled no phone calls from collection and no flood of mail to my home address by those ITT rip off fucks.

I am continuing to pay down my Sallie Mae loan, as its the only loan that is relevant. It's like owing the IRS.

As for the monies ITT claims I owe them, it can wait, they are a credit card at best, not the Federal Government.

Thank you!
