Help getting out before its to late

Postby slay3r » October 31st, 2008, 5:20 pm

The names George, I am 19 and I was currently talked into going to ITT by a recruiter at the Sylmar campus. After being nervous on attending college for my first time, I started to do a lot of research on ITT and found nothing but bad news about the school. I noticed how badly they wanted to get me in for my "future". The entrance test was a total joke, I didn't even try and "passed", they didn't even show me scores or any proof of passing. My main purpose of going to my first appointment to check out the school was to get information on what they offered, but I bought into all of it and feels like I was forced to get in when I was only looking for information. I signed everything they gave to me to sign and even had my mom come down to do the finicial aid papers. The papers I signed (which I still have a copy of) are: Performance Fact Sheet, Student Right-to-Know Act Disclosure, a pink paper without a title, and the Notice concerning transferbility of Units and Degrees earned at our school sheet. So Far I got an acceptance letter from the mail, class schedule for the first 3 months, and a copy to both my mom and I about Sallie Mae's lending privacy policy. I told my mom about all the bad reviews and how I can get better education at a community college and cheaper. I did enough research to find this school a fraud and waste of my time. I can tell my mom was really uncomfortable about having to pay 40,000 after I graduate but she will do whatever it takes for me to get an education so she bought into it.

I start in December 1, 2008 and project day for my program is on the 8th of November, then I have to go to the orientation on Nov. 22. My mom wants to go asap and cancel everything, we will do so on Monday. I notified my mom on how I already know that they are going to beg me to stay and say whatever needs to be said to change my mind but I'm not going to buy any of it. I told her not to buy any of it either. We are going to do whatever it takes to save us from this scam. I will update you guys on what happened. In the mean time, take a few and give me your feedback. My main concern is, will I have to pay anything for going to the interview and doing all the paper work?

P.S: btw, I was going to take the CEET program for my associates.

You shouldn't be charged, DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING MORE. DO NOT ACCEPT BOOKS.

Call the loan provider, sallie mae, block the loan apps. Request all attained funds be returned immediatley and get a signed letter stating you are withdrawn. I bet that pink paper is the enrollment agreement or loan BS.

I have a question. Did you ever attend the school? if so, what happened? are you in debt?

speaking of debt 3 months ago I received a letter from sallie mae saying I owed 17000. I received a letter last week saying I owe 11000. I called them to find out if there was a mistake. Going by their website I was 11000 also. They told me not to worry about it that some of the debt was forgiven. My only thought is maybe that economic stimulus pack that passed through government but they assured me that wasn't it. I am not gonna complain about it but I don't wanna get that 11000 payed off then find out there was a mess-up.

1. Don't sign anything else and get everything in writing - words alone are sh!t
2. Don't accept books or other crap in the mail; refuse delivery & get a receipt for non-delivery
3. Get something in writing stating you are not enrolled - now!
4. Read http://www.itt-tech.edu/campus/download/042.pdf to understand their rules
4. Read all of the other posts here in the Exit Interview folder; your question has probably been answered

Good luck and warn your friends! :o
The only real students attending ITT Tech are the ones that shouldn't be there.

Ok, I got home a couple of hours ago from canceling my enrollment. Yes, they did try to get me to stay and started talking to my mom like if I was a minor and telling her to rethink everything. I can tell my mom was just going with the flow but I started saying that there was nothing that was going to change my mind from attending itt and that was my final decision. I kept asking for a written notice telling me that I was completely out of the school and they kept telling me that the yellow paper was the one I signed and that should be my notice.... I was clueless when they told me this but I left without a written notice..... I need to call up sallie mae tomarrow because I couldn't today and let them know that I need to cancel the loan if they havent done it already. The recruiter kept some papers and told me that she was going to keep them if I happen to change my mind.... She also told me to at least come to project day to see how its like but I'm not going to go. The recruiters supervisor did something in the computer and told me that she canceled my enrollment. The recruiter got all pissed when I told her that the entrance exam was a total joke lol but I didn't give a shit.
