Please Help me get out

Postby Sekshun8 » February 18th, 2010, 1:35 pm

Hello,
I am like everyone else and finally realized this school is a joke. I went to financial aid yesterday and they submitted an application for personal loan. Like an idiot i electronically signed loan and then read the paperwork they printed out for me. This loan is supposedly for my next 3 quarters. I am almost done this quarter and will have earned 56 worthless credits. Now this loan was for 18k and after looking at the terms it says that when i have completed paying this loan i would have paid 78k. If the school is supposed to be 40 k how is one loan out of the many that I have going to add up 70 k. When I get off work I am calling the loan bank and denying the loan and i am going to go to school and tell them i want to withdraw. I am very thankful for this website and going to use the information to get out of this situation. My question is they tell you that if you withdraw that you still are responsible for paying the full two year tuition. Can they really do that or is it a scare tactic? I dont see how they can charge me if i am officially withdrawn from school. If anyone has insight to this please let me know.

Have you looked through the entire Exit Interview folder for your answer? My advice would be to do that, ask Seven ALive, maybe ask a lawyer, and also study the specific catalog (pdf file) of the "campus" you attend and follow their withdrawal guidelines.

The only real students attending ITT Tech are the ones that shouldn't be there.

I actually went to school today to withdraw and went through same motions as most from what i read. They would not give me anything in writing and said the system would automatically take care of everything. I did ask the Dean and he said that Having to pay full tuition even after withdrawing was not true and i only have to pay what I owe. I think the teacher's use that as a scare tactic to keep people from withdrawing. I told them I wanted to cancel my loan that i signed for yesterday and they said they would take care of it but didnt even ask my name. The person that i usually deal with in FA was not there so i will call her tomorrow to cancel. I did ask them for my Financial history and they said if i canceled my loan than I would owe ITT Tech 9K and that it would go right to collections and collections would not help me. So i am going to get all of my paperwork and have a lawyer look it over and also send them letter certified mail to officially withdraw and ask for written verification that I withdrew.

I hope it works out. You should probably send ITT Tech an email or two stating your intentions and demand the withdrawal be in writing. Good luck and tell us how it turns out!

That's a lie, the loan you just took out should be for the next 3 quarters, since your not going to attend, that loan would not be used. I would sit down with the head of FA and make her go through with you your FA history. I did this, and in my case I made them refund the money back to the loan provider. Usually what they do is hold onto the money, which is wrong. When I did attend ITT Tech, I tested out of some classes, and they still charged me for them, they told me they normally hold onto the surpluses so it can be applied for the next quarter.

Go down to FA, request a packet of every single document they have on you, legally they are required to fulfill this. I had to wait a few days and they left my packet at the front desk, I did have to sign for it (It contains personal info, so they have to legally do that). The packet they give you should be huge, at least 100 pages.

You should get a sheet with all charges and payments and any refunds. It looks like GRC (General Revenue Corporation) is their collection agency.

I just looked at my enrollment agreement, It just stipulates what will be refunded and how if you cancel midway through a quarter. They can't charge you the entire tuition, if you didn't complete the program. On that note, the enrollment agreement is a long piece of paper, the signature area is on the front, but the enrollment agreement continues on the back, very shady!

Thank you both for all of your help. I did get copies of my financial history and its a whopping 3 pages long. I am going to go there today and demand the whole packet as you suggest. I am going to cancel that loan but what they are telling me that if I cancel loan than I will owe ITT Tech the money and they are going to immediately send it to collections. I dont see how that is legal because I did nothing wrong and they told me when i started since my credit was not that good and could not get a loan that ITT covers the cost interest free and its actually good that I have bad credit because i wont have to pay interest. At least thats what they told me. I will let you know how it goes and what BS they try to feed me next.
