Students are happy when they don't have to do as much work. Faculty don't have to issue as many failing grades. Parents get to show off their children's bachelor degrees. Administrators can keep all that tuition money and brag about their increased retention rates. Academic accreditation agencies and state education departments generally look the other way, so there is little oversight and no one is pushing back.
