Debt Of My Life, Thanks ITT :(

I need to share my thoughts to possibly help persuade people not to enroll at ITT Tech. I visited ITT Tech in high school field trip type thing. Next thing you know I graduated high school and im in ITT Tech for programming. Keep in mind I have been programming since I was 12 (im 23 now).

Problem 1: The recruiter lied directly to me. I asked if I had to take a english class or anything of the sort. They said no. Just math, programming, etc. I asked for Job Placement records - the first year progammers have not graduated yet so they could not give me any numbers. But after the graduates graduate then I would be given those requested numbers. I was told the education was hard, and very fast paced. Good I love a challenge. I signed some paperwork and went home. The next morning I got a phone call saying he forgot a signature and he would drive the hour to my work to get the signature. (Red Flag #1).

Problem 2: Quarter 1 - Nothing computer related was discussed. It was simple ignorant classes like Business Management. Ok whatever passed all these silly classes. Our instructor quit his job saying he had "moral problems with how the school is ran" (Red Flag #2). Other then that things seem to be going ok.

Problem 3: I forget the exact name of the class but my god. They do not need to go over - a input device is a mouse, a keyboard. I wanted to test out of this class so I did not have to drive to school a hour each way 3 days a week. They said since I sat in the class for at least 1 day you can not test out. Great, now im starting to feel I am wasting my time. This is middle school computer classes.

Problem 4: Half way through this semester I put 2 and 2 together. I was in Windows 2000 & TCP/IP classes. They could be programming related, but I looked into it more. They put me into Networking, not programming like I had in writing on my signup paperwork. I could not get any financial restitution for the semester they screwed me into taking. Now not only am I a semester behind, I now have to pay for a extra semster I did not have to take. Whatever, I finished up the semester and went on to programming.

Problem 5: Visual Basic class. Thier is no possible way in the world this clas is advance enough to ever get anybody a job. I am already completely fluent in Visual Basic. The next thing you know the final program is due for the semester. Almost every person in the class was coming to me for help on BASIC beginner issues. So me and my team turn our application in and get a 99%. To easy.

Prolem 6: C++. This is when things really started to go down hill. I am not joking when I say our teacher failed to show. It was common for him not to show for class at least 1 of 3 days a week. I would drive 1 hour to school, see he was not their and the entire class would go home. The days he was present you had to do the applications in the book first thing in class. The last few minutes he would discuss on how to do things. To me this should be first as most people in the class did not know a thing that was going on. Once again it seems im helping out everybody in the class while the teacher sits at his desk reading the newspaper.

Problem 7: You recieve a personal hard drive. Since they had me in networking on accident it had Windows 2000 installed. But at this point rest of the people who was in programming had Linux installed. They told me I would have to install Linux on my own time with no help because it should of already been done. They did not seem to care that they had me in the wrong classes to start with. Whatever, installing Linux is not hard.

Problem 8: Attendance. It did not matter if you was present or not. And no im not making this up either. If you was absent you are suppose to get a phone call asking where you was. Never happens. If their was a test that day you will somehow pass it. Our instructor even told us to keep watch. He said "watch your attendance and test scores. If you fail a test I put it in the books and you are free to see it. After it goes through 'upper' management it will be different." And it sure indeed did just that. I found myself skipping a day here and their and going to McDonalds to get breakfast then going home. Somehome I was still present and passed everything.

Problem 9: Instructors. For the most part the instructors was ignorant. Especially the programming instructors. I asked them personally if I could do this knowing it could be done and you always got a "im not sure, or you have to read the book." Our math instructor only wanted to be called "Dr" since he had a phd in engineering. He would goto the chalk board and you would not see his face again until the bell rang. Often times people would leave and go to breakfast and he would never realise they left.

Problem 10: A woman in our one semester class had poor attendance to start with. Then she just stopped showing at all. We did not see her for over 2 months. Then one day she was back. She passed all classes & exams, and had good attendance according to the paperwork. Now that is just not possible people! Even after the entire class going to the Dean we all just got a run around. Now im just piss#d.

At this point I asked for the numbers of job placement for the first year of graduated programmers. (I will be the 2nd year). They said I would have to go see this person. That person said you will have to go see this person. This went on for over 3/4'ths of the day. At this point you know they could not produce these numers probally from very poor placement rates.

I think its time to leave this school and look at different oppertunities.

At this point I got burned out. I always loved programming. I found myself not even touching my computer at home. I was depressed since I was thousands of dollars in debt - which is a scary thought when you are in your early 20's and this is coming out of your own bank account. I decided it was not worth paying this money to ITT and I dropped out. I finished up my current semester and did not return. I now work 50-60 hours a week to pay my bills and pay off this huge debt. The way I look at it is I learned 100% faster on my own and the school was slowing me down. I am still a full time mechanic but I also started my own software development company. Once I was out of ITT my dreams of programming started coming back again.

Ive been out of ITT for about a year and a half, and about 6 months ago I seen on the internet that the FBI was investigating ITT for inside stock trading/inflating. This kind of got me by suprise. Since seeing first hand how they are inflating their attendance, grade records. Although I see people being refuned after they got screwed from this school. I would seek legal advice but I am already in debt now and could never afford the fee's. I was hoping somebody would start a class action law suite but I have not heard much on that.

I hope people read this and realise just how serious I am about what I say about this school. None of this information is fabricated, like somebody suggested on my post at ripoffreports about the Strongsville Itt. I just cant believe out of the thousands of people who got screwed from this company and ITT sits back and smiles, then puts out commercials that make us who attended want to vommit.

If you want a education goto a good college and do your homework first. I hope the people forging the students documents gets arrested.
The only real students attending ITT Tech are the ones that shouldn't be there.

Wow this just sucks so much ass. I am almost 21 and in 6 months ill be paying back this huge ass loan. This is why we all need to get this lawsuit going. They need to be shutdown, they are ruining people's lives. If someone asked me where i went to school i used to say ITT Tech, they actually thought it was a good school. For the past year i lie and say i go to ASU. I need to get a better paying job ASAP and save save save or i am going to be fucked.
If you don't like it, MOD IT!
