My Representative..

Postby MSTie1 » April 25th, 2008, 9:53 am

Okay so I probably got suckered in like everybody else here. Request a brochure from the web page, which I never got btw... and then *bam*! you're in an interview room with a representative. My guy was pretty cool, laid back, not all gung ho ITT. And as I signed up he just geared me towards the associates and at the time I was thinking "what? don't think I can handle the bachelors???" but now I'm thankful because there is no way I'm going to continue on and get a bachelors there. So thank you so very much Chris! Although I'm not looking for to the ordeal that it is to transfer credits out from ITT *sigh*, There's two types of "accredited" nationally and regionally, and they don't mesh. ITT being national of course, and everybody else being regional. Then I read that article about the quarter hrs/full hours. Even more depressing...

The reps are basically salesman who have to meet quotas or they get fired. They all try to push you into an associates, i don't know why since a 4 year degree would get them more money. But about 40% of students drop out before the 2 year mark, which i am guessing if they are in the associates program the school will get to retain more of that money.

I could be wrong but... All nationally accredited schools will accept credits from regionally accredited schools. The reverse is not true, not by a long shot. Regional accreditation is the gold standard so to speak.

My rep told me blatant untruths. Maybe he didn't know just how untrue his statements were at the time. I am pretty sure he knows now. Nothing about accreditation that I can remember but about the quality (and quantity) of education, the career services, and the knowledge and professional pride of the instructors.

He told me that if what I was taught went out of date I could return and take the class again for free. That is, in retrospect, laughable in more than two different ways.

The reps are like fake psychics. They read your facial expressions and nonverbal cues in order to tell you what you want to hear. Or maybe you tell them what you want to hear, like I probably did. Either way what you need is what they're selling.

Well put, ya they are scamming people for the money. Some reps get fired or quit for standing up to the corporate bullshit, however that number is slim by far.

They make up lies to get you to commit, and then your screwed!

Yea I know that regional will go to national. I actually did that. I just didn't know until later on why that was. Course they were upfront at the time that ITT credits might not transfer anywhere, and at the time I was okay with that, I was thinking this place was gonna be hard, all technical courses and an "accelerated" syllabus. I always feel like screaming to the people that walk down the halls with a rep to save themselves and don't sign up. You guys rep treat you like an old friend when they see you in the halls too?

I used too, my rep remembered my name and all of that, he was a nice guy. I transferred to Tempe from Vegas. (Hey, new profile option to state your campus! Look for it in the UCP, lol ITT Tech Networking!!!).

When i got to tempe, i had a bunch of issues. First i was in the middle of my "Packaging" for F.A. so i had to handle that (and it took 4ever). Then they gave me a rep because the dumb asses thought i was a new student. The rep i had was a very annoying person. Kept calling me up and making sure i did this and that. I kept telling her I am not a new student. She also wanted me to see her everytime i went to the campus. I was really annoyed, i don't think i would of liked that even if i was new. She treated me like it was my first day in kindergarten. I kept blowing her off and she got the picture.

I feel exactly the same way, i see someone in the hall getting a tour from a rep and i want to say to them, get the hell out of here now! You cannot warn them because the rep is stuck to their ass feeding them lies. So one day it was orientation. I had strips of paper that said "Don't go to ITT Tech, it is a scam, go to It Takes time.org for information".

How i approached them was "epic" but they got weirded out. I just approached one, and said hey take this read it and go there and i walked away. One asshole just threw it away and looked at me funny, so i said this.
"Ok fine, i want you to remember this day, the day someone approached you to help you save yourself the biggest mistake of your life, and instead of listening to him, you threw your life away. I want to remember my face, so you can look back in a year, and 10 years and tell yourself, that was the guy who tried to save my life, but i didn't listen. " lol i seriously said that (or very close to it).

Anyway, ill be sending a global P.M. telling users how to spread the word of this site on campus and provide flyers!
I was even thinking of buying custom pens and handing them out during class lol.

The reps are basically salesman indeed. In addition, the campus where i went to at least 90% of the time seems like there reading off from a script or cue cards. They talk like robots i was thinking at first, but in no time, you would know that ITT corporation is making the reps to sell their so-called "honesty" speech to up coming students to sign the dotted line.

They dont care about us (the students) at all!!!

I have been reading posts from this site for a while and wish i would have heard about it before I attended Shittech. By the time I found out about this site I was already trapped.

My rep was downright horrible. He told so many lies it was unreal. He told me I would have classes every monday, wednesday, and friday morning. After receiving my schedule I soon to find out all you get is all evening classes or saturday morning classes. While giving my tour I remember he would say hello to people walking down the hall and go on this rant about how everybody knows everybody and how its one big family and how the school is for me since its hands on.

One thing that always cracked me up was how towards the end of my pathetic degree at ITT he was so proud how he was the only rep still around after two years. He would go on how he cares for the people that he brings in to the school and makes sure they attend their classes. He walks around the school with his chest out like he is the man of the school. It just disgusted my buddy and I. We would sit there and just make fun of him all the time.

I also feel the same way, I just wanna go up to someone and tell them to run when they are with a rep. I especially wanna go up to the people that are on their tour with the rep I had and tell them I had this rep and whatever he says is a lie. I just know that I wish someone would have done that for me.

Exactly my rep was like that but with attitude. What a jerk. I just got up and said, "forget it!" and i am going to Monroe communtiy college this fall! God, then he called me back all pissed and asked, "Why the heck you walked on us." I just told him to not call me again or there will be a lawsuit. Damnit, i was uncomfortble in a pressuring to go here college interview.

Well my story.... First off, I was being rushed to find a school, saw "ITT Tech." and they called me right away after I filled in information about a broucher. Got an appointment the following week, took a test, passed, signed up on Firday and Monday I started classes! Fast I know!! I was absolutly FOOLED!! Lived an hour and a half away to make things better. Right out of high school so I did'nt know any better and thought that's what everyone did...let the representative and financial advisor take over and I signed all papers not knowing exactly what I was signing. They reassured me everything is taken care of and no worry's and that I'll be starting school Monday.

So by the second semester I found out what exactly I signed up for. To be in the Architectural field. I thought..."wow...I never thought about being an architect or engineerer." So now after I been in a few core classes I start to have a really bad knot in my stomach telling me THIS ISN'T WHAT I WANT TO DO!!!!! I'm not doing good on my assignments, I'm asking for more help and tutoring...still not satisfied with my work and I was still struggling. After I had a mental break down, I cried my eyes out to my professor and he tells me, "you only have 2 more semesters (which is another year, another $20,000 that I dont have being 18 years old). So I go to "A" representative ( not "my" representative because the hire and fire a lot of reps.) and she did not want to hear anything that I had to say. Basically to stick it threw because theres no point in dropping out in the middle of an AS degree. She said, "Instead of dropping out and having nothing to show for, just stick it out while your half way threw it then you'll have something to show for and you'll never know, later down the road you might use it." Then she gave me a testomony about someone not using there degree then later just so happen to be an opportunity for them.

A year and a half later, I graduated, didn't find any type of job, and now I have Sallie Mae blowing up all phones!

Another year passed, I started and graduated CNA program at TECO. Now in the mist of going to take my CNA test to be certified and I'll have a job in the medical field.

I've told the chairman at ITT Tech. what had happened when I was in school and tired to drop out when he did a follow up and all he had to say is basically offer me to join there HIM program because it was in the medical field. HA HA NOT!!

Now that I'm trying to move forward, and get my own place to call home, I feel as if, paying my student loan is a big discouragement because I'll have a minium wage paying job plus any bills a normal person would have plus a $40,000+Interest student loan to pay off. Seems impossible for someone especially when there not using that AS degree and dont care anything about it!! It's like paying for a lexus car in your drive way and can't ever touch or use it in your life time. Just sitting there like a bolder on your shoulders. I wish I could give up my AS degree and delete my $40,000+Interest student loan.

Well that's somewhat of my story, hope this helps!

There are plenty of people in your situation, sorry to say, but don't give up hope! Ask some experts about paying down your loans. Live with your parents for awhile if possible.
